Sam Ryder releases 'What's The Buzz' ahead of JCS opening in the West End

The critically acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician Sam Ryder releases the second recording from the highly anticipated West End Revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, coming to The London Palladium this summer with Ryder making is West End debut in the titular role of Jesus.

With lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, What's The Buzz is the second track released from Jesus Christ Superstar following the Top 25 hit Gethsemane, which saw Sam Ryder give a powerhouse performance of the song live on Britain's Got Talent. The emotional climax of the show, Gethsemane shows off Ryder's vocal acrobatics, passion and vulnerability which the iconic song calls for.

Now available on all streaming platforms, What's The Buzz is infused with funk and 70s influence, with the full track recorded live to tape at the renowned British Grove Studios. It shows range and versatility not only in composition, but also Ryder’s impressive lead vocals.

Driven by a funky baseline and skilful guitar and synth solos, What’s The Buzz is undeniably infectious.

Both tracks were produced by Sam Ryder, Andrew Lloyd Webber and the legendary Grammy Award Winner Fraser T. Smith who has worked with the likes of Adele, Stormzy, Dave and Raye on some of their biggest hits to date.

On the new release, Sam Ryder says,

This second track gives fans a further glimpse into what they can expect from the live production this summer, and is released through The Other Songs label. The production at The London Palladium and Theatre Royal Drury Lane is produced by

Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and directed by Tim Sheader. Due to phenomenal demand, The London Palladium season has already broken box office records and has been extended for a limited 12-week run at Theatre Royal

Drury Lane starting in October, with Ryder continuing his role as Jesus. This track and West End production follows Sam Ryder's sophomore album Heartland, which was released last year and saw him perform his biggest headline show at London's Wembley Arena. The album followed his 2022 debut album There's Nothing but Space, Man! which reached UK number 1. Ryder has amassed over 20 million followers across social media and is BRIT and Emmy nominated.

'What's The Buzz' is out now on all digital platforms. The two brand new recordings, ‘What’s The Buzz’ and ‘Gethsemane’, have been pressed on striking white 10” vinyl, on sale from opening night, 7th July.
