On Sunday 15th June, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Starlight Express choreographer Arlene Phillips attended a special gala event celebrating 20 years of the show at the Starlighthalle in Bochum, Germany.

Starlight Express opened at the purpose-built Starlighthalle on 12th June 1988. By June 2008, over 12 million people had seen the production. An indoor laser show and fabulous firework display marked the show’s achievement, with Andrew and Arlene appearing onstage following the evening’s performance.

Bochum’s Starlighthalle, which was designed especially for the show, was built in less than a year, entering it in to the Guinness Book of Records as one of the fastest buildings ever to be constructed.
