The London Palladium revivial of Joseph

The 1991 London Palladium revival of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was directed by Steven Pimlott, starring pop star Jason Donovan in the title role.

This record-breaking show was completely different to earlier productions with the children’s choir becoming an integral part of the action and Mark Thompson’s award-winning set and costume designs, and Anthony van Laast’s witty choreography creating an extravaganza for all the family.

This production went on to form the basis for several UK and US tours and a video starring Donny Osmond as well as the 2007 West End production of Joseph, which saw Lee Mead take on the title role at London’s Adelphi Theatre after winning BBC TV show Any Dream Will Do.

The production won the 1991 Ivor Novello award for Best British Musical while in 1992 Mark Thompson won two Laurence Olivier awards for Best Set Design and Best Costume Design.
