Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar Tony nominations

The Broadway productions of Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar were yesterday nominated in the 2012 Tony Awards, America’s most prestigious and coveted theatre awards.

The nominations were announced live from The New York Public Library for Performing Arts. Both the current Broadway revival of Evita, directed by Michael Grandage, and the Stratford Shakespeare Festival production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which opened at the Neil Simon Theatre in March 2012, were among the nominees.

Evita, now playing at The Marquis Theatre on Broadway, is nominated in the following categories: Best Revival of a Musical Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for Michael Cerveris Best Choreography for Rob Ashford

Jesus Christ Superstar is nominated for the following awards: Best Revival of a Musical Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Josh Young

The winners of the 2012 Tony Awards will be announced in a special ceremony, broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre in North America on CBS on Sunday, June 10th from 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT time delay).
