The Sound of Music opens at the London Palladium

Connie Fisher, the winner of BBC TV series How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? made her West End debut in the London Palladium production of The Sound of Music  just two months after the British public chose the then-23-year-old to play the iconic role of Maria Von Trapp.

How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?  was the first of Andrew’s casting projects with the BBC and the show was a great success, with peak viewing figures nearing eight million. The show saw ten actresses compete to play the role of Maria in Andrew and David Ian’s revival of the classic The Sound of Music at the world-famous London Palladium.

Eventual winner Connie equally won over the critics with the Daily Mail declaring: “Connie Fisher triumphs as Maria.” Co-star Lesley Garrett also triumphed, with The Independent calling her “phenomenal.”

Connie Fisher was succeeded in the role by Summer Strallen. The London Palladium production completed its run on 21st February 2009. In summer 2009, Connie Fisher returned to the role of Maria in a new UK touring production of the show.
