The Perfect Song

Andrew Lloyd Webber and award-winning lyricist, Leslie Bricusse, have collaborated professionally for the first time ever on a song, which will appear on West End star, Michael Ball’s new album.

The Perfect Song – was written following a bet made by their good friend Sir Michael Caine.

Andrew reveals: “Leslie and I were having dinner with Michael Caine and Michael said he couldn’t believe that we had never written together professionally.  We pointed out that we had written a little song as a wedding present for Michael Winner.

“I said to Leslie: ‘You give me a great song title and I will write a song.”

“Michael bet us that we wouldn’t come up with anything.  Leslie immediately came up with the title The Perfect Song, I wrote the melody on the way home in the taxi, emailed it to Leslie and he wrote the lyrics within a day.

“I happened to run into Michael Ball at a Downing Street reception (as one does!) and he asked me if I had anything new for his album.”

Andrew was delighted to have the opportunity to write with long-standing friend, Leslie, whose credits include What Kind of Fool Am I, The Candy Man, Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice.

The pair have both won Academy Awards, Oliviers, Tonys, Grammys and have triumphed in musical careers that span decades.

THE PERFECT SONG will be released on 18th March and can be downloaded as a single from iTunes, Amazon and all other digital music stores. Click here to pre-order on iTunes »
