Michael Ball Meets Andrew Lloyd Webber

Tune in to BBC Radio 2 tomorrow (March 21st) at 7.03pm when Michael Ball joins Andrew Lloyd Webber for a fascinating chat about the extraordinary life and times of Lionel Bart.

Bart was the East End boy made good, a composer and lyricist who graduated from writing student reviews, to best-selling pop songs, to world beating musicals, in a meteoric rise to fame during the 50s and 60s.

His hits included the pop songs ‘Livin’ Doll’ and ‘A Handful of Songs’ and the shows _Lock Up Your Daughters_ and the multi-award winning musical _Oliver!_

Michael and Andrew Lloyd Webber discuss how and why Bart sold the rights to this masterwork, and descended into an alcohol and drug-fuelled obscurity that lasted for over a decade, and how he was restored to fame by a building-society commercial.
