An Over the Rainbow update from Andrew
After working with the Dorothys on their solo songs this week, Andrew shares his thoughts on the qualities the winning Dorothy will need…
You can watch the results of Andrew’s session with the Dorothys in this weekend’s Over The Rainbow on BBC1 – watch tonight at 7.10pm, and at 7.15pm tomorrow for the results show.

Well, it seems you may have set yourself a tall order. When someone tries to follow a great act as you are attempting, they run a high risk of failure due to the original having gained a place in peoples hearts and memories. The essence of the original Oz has a orchestral strings & warmth that you’ll be hard pressed to replicate or capture. That ‘old’ film feeling yet, simple community life of coerance that no longer exists. Good luck, you’re gonna need it

I wonder what William & Jean (Andrews parents) would make of this branching into auditioning of Dogs?! Well, I’m sure their creative genius and prodigious sons are chips off the ‘ol blocks and, merely carrying on in a manifestation of musical as well as acting genius.

Are we going to hear the Dorothys sing ‘over the rainbow’-the Eva Cassidy version would be fantastic!

Surely Stephanie was Dorothy. The others seem presentational in comparison. You have lost me now.

OTR fans might be interested to know that we are interviewing the the previous week’s loser every week on the Colourful Radio breakfast show. (on digital radio after Classic in greater London, on the net on http://www.colourfulradio.com everywhere else.) We hope to have Stephanie on between 9 and 10a.m on Thursday. We’re OTR addicts on the show and were all as ‘gutted’ as Stephanie to see her go out. You’d have to have a heart of Lauren not to have felt for her. Talk about breaking butterflies on wheels. Couldn’t agree more about the choice of songs being absurdly erratic. And, do you remember Jessie’s rendition of ‘The Man That Got Away’ on I’d Do Anything? So much more convincing than Lauren’s I thought.. But people keep voting for her, and I have the feeling that for ALW she is the banker choice who might just be able to do 8 shows a week and not be missing every 3rd show a la Connie Fisher. And as one who took his daughter to see the show, only to find La Fisher off sick, if that were the case,I could see his point.

I can’t believe that Jessica left tonight. My husband and I watched and although the other girl had a fantastic voice – she was pretty boring in comparison to Jessica. To me Jessica has huge appeal to an American audience.

BIG, BIG, mistake. Jessica would have been the perfect Dorothy. This girl stands out from the rest, she captivates an audience and has a style all of her own. This makes her unique from the other girls. If your not sitting in the front row, you need a leeding lady who has this quality to keep you drawn into the show. Her swan song of over the rainbow was fantastic. I felt her performances were outstanding. From day one, this girl had something that made you want to see her again, thats the mark of a future world class star.
Unfortunatly, myself, and I know many Jessica fans, have now lost all interest in the rest of the show. I personaly wont be buying tickets now, as my personal favourite for Dorothy has now gone. Good luck to the rest I’m sure others will enjoy who ever gets the crown.
Mr Lord Webber, I am so annoyed you sent Jessica home, go stand in the corner, or as the cowardly lion would say….‘Put em up,.....put em up….’
Good luck with the rest of the show.

I must say how much i have enjoyed Lauren’s performances, She has consistantly put in great performances and despite the fact that she appeared in the bottom two i was glad to see Andrew save her without any hesitation at all.
Her training shows her above most of the other girls.
I hope she gets the role as i have already purchased the tickets for the show next March.

I agree word for word with “tinman”
Jessica, unique, sweet , talent in bucket loads, humble ,passionate about the theatre ,her performance and gives her all to spellbound audiance , she has the want to see again factor. and i do on I player , watch and listen to her again and again and love it every time, afraid the other sound all very much the same to me with odd little bits, that really nice,
Do you want someone who may be good in a few months that people do not remember , or someone they will go back to see over and over again. Because she makes you smile every time , or cry as she did with “and there you’ll be. “ her eyes and face so expressive .
Can we have vote recount ? and bring her back or put her in a new version of Mary Poppins ,the early years lol
