Jesus Christ Superstar celebrates 40 years!

Following the recent announcement that the critically acclaimed Des McAnuff’s Stratford Festival production of Jesus Christ Superstar will be opening on Broadway next March, it is timely to remember that on this very day in 1971 the show made its debut when it was produced at the Mark Hellinger Theater on 51st Street.

The production opened on 12th October, and the cast included Jeff Fenholt as Jesus and Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdelene, with Ben Vereen as Judas and Barry Dennan as Pilate.
